Dr. Elena Charapova
Dr. Elena Charapova received her MD from University of Alberta in 2002. She has completed 2 years of training in Family Medicine at University of Ottawa with focus in Obstetrics. Since 2004 she has been a member of the Division of Maternal and Newborn Care at the Civic campus of The Ottawa Hospital. Her primary practice is at the Somerset West Community Health Centre. She enjoys being a part of a caring and dedicated multidisciplinary team at Somerset West. Dr Charapova speaks English and Russian. In her spare time Dr Charapova is a busy mom of two. She also enjoys outdoors, music and theater.
Dr. Sarah Rice
Dr. Sarah Rice graduated from biology at Queen’s University and then pursued her MD degree at McMaster University, graduating from their family medicine program in 2002. Always having an interest in women’s health, she did subsequent training in low risk obstetrics in Thunder Bay where she had a Gray’s Anatomy moment catching a baby being born in an elevator. She moved to Ottawa in 2003 and took a position at Somerset West Community Health Centre where she loves her job focusing on obstetrics, teaching and urban health. When Dr. Rice is not hiking, gardening or reading, she is hanging out with her three kids, partner, cat and dog.
Dr. Jolanda Turley
Dr. Jolanda Turley completed medical school at McGill University before moving to Toronto in 1997 to do residency training (at St. Michael’s Hospital) and a fellowship in low-risk obstetrics (at Women’s College Hospital). She practiced family medicine and obstetrics for 9 years in Toronto before moving to Ottawa in 2006, and joining the Division of Maternal and Newborn care at the Ottawa Hospital. She works at the Primrose Family Medicine Unit as an academic family physician. Dr. Turley speaks English, French and Dutch. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, knitting, walking the dog and spending time with her 2 boys and husband.
Dr. Kristine Whitehead
Dr. Kristine Whitehead is originally from Ottawa, although she went to medical school in Toronto. She completed all of her family medicine training, with a focus on maternal and newborn care, in 1994 and has worked at the Ottawa Hospital since. Caring for moms and babies is the most enjoyable and rewarding part of her practice. Having her own children has helped her appreciate the value of ongoing care for everyone in the family at the family medicine clinic.
Dr. Rebecca Warmington
Dr. Rebecca Warmington has been living in Ottawa since 2007, first graduating from Carleton University’s Humanities and Biology program and then completing her MD and family medicine residency at the University of Ottawa in 2017. She completed a fellowship in Obstetrics in 2018 through the University of Ottawa and the Montfort Hospital and has been delivering babies at the Civic ever since! She feels privileged to care for families during pregnancy and beyond, and share in such an intimate and important event. Health equity, empowerment, respect and excellence are her core values, reflected as well by the values of her clinic, Centretown Community Health Centre. Dr. Warmington speaks French and English. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family and time outdoors – walking, biking and swimming.
Dr. Victoria Swan
Having grown up in Ottawa, Dr. Swan is excited to have returned to her hometown and joined the academic family health team at The Ottawa Hospital's Civic Campus. Dr. Swan completed medical school in 2013 at the University College Dublin in Ireland, and her family medicine residency at the University of Saskatchewan, where her passion for maternity and newborn care grew. She started community practice in Saskatoon with a focus on women's health, and low risk obstetrics at the Royal University Hospital. She continued this focus when she moved to northern Saskatchewan, but also broadened her scope to indigenous health and surgical, inpatient, and emergency care. She speaks English and French.
Dr. Flavia Sendi-Mukasa
Dr. Flavia Sendi-Mukasa was born and raised in Ottawa. She completed medical school at the University of Toronto in 2017 and a family medicine residency at the University of Ottawa in 2019. She also completed a fellowship in maternity and newborn skills at the University of Ottawa in 2021. Dr. Sendi-Mukasa has the privilege to work at Somerset West Community Health Centre, providing full scope family medicine and prenatal care to a diverse patient population. She considers herself a foodie and enjoys spending her free time with her family and watching basketball. She speaks English and French.
Dr. Rachel Li
Dr. Rachel Li is family physician who is interested in women’s, maternal, and newborn health. She completed her medical school at McMaster University and her Family Medicine Residency at Queen’s University in Kingston. After graduating, she spent some time practicing in Alberta and the Northwest Territories, but is excited to be back in Ontario where she can set down roots! In her time off, she can often be found exploring the Ottawa Valley and hiking with her family. She loves working with new moms and is honoured to be a part of your journey with your little one.
